We’ll explore why it’s urgent to retrofit over 20 million homes in the UK, the importance of a “fabric first” approach, and how to develop a “whole house plan.”

Topics include single measures and quick wins; fabric first principles (insulation, airtightness, and moisture control); embodied carbon (natural and recycled materials); heating and cooling; ventilation; and how to assess, evaluate, and plan a retrofit project.

This perspective is valuable for anyone involved in housing or commercial buildings—whether you deliver a specific service or manage entire proje

In our presentation we'll cover the following topics:

  • why we need to retrofit our homes

  • single measures & quick wins

  • fabric first: insulation, airtightness & moisture control

  • embodied carbon - natural & recycled materials

10 minute break

  • heating & cooling

  • ventilation

  • assess, evaluate & plan

who is this for...?

  1. homeowners & (private/social rental) property owners who would like to understand how to improve their homes making them more energy efficient, comfortable and healthy - perhaps things to consider before contemplating a new kitchen…

  2. designers & consultants (such as architects, surveyors, engineers and project managers) who are keen to find out more about the huge opportunities in low-carbon domestic retrofit

  3. builders & installers who are starting to recognise that we need to offer new specialist services for low-energy home improvement

  4. teachers in schools, colleges and universities who would like to keep up-to-date with modern materials and practices and can encourage the next generation to enter this incredibly exciting and fast-growing industry

  5. manufacturers & suppliers who are keen to learn how to support this huge growth sector

  6. young people & students who would like to discover how exciting a career in modern construction can be...!

I have attended a number of Fabric events now and I highly recommend them. Ric is a font of knowledge, passion and innovation and you can’t help but want to be on the same journey as him . Whether it’s attending their informative and enjoyable workshops or one of the networking events, I guarantee you will learn more about sustainability and how we can all save this planet and as a bonus you will meet some wonderful people along the way.

If you are a homeowner, an architect, a student, working in construction or housing, a newbie to the industry or just curious to what Fabric is all about, you will receive a warm welcome, I highly recommend a visit.
