The aim of this workshop series is to provide the learners with the knowledge to identify and understand the range of energy efficiency measures and evaluate those relevant to older and traditional buildings... perfect for retrofit!
Learners must be able to identify and understand:
-
the range of energy efficiency measures for the building fabric;
-
the range of energy efficiency measures for building services;
-
the range of materials and construction techniques appropriate to older and traditional buildings including the existing; building condition and defects; and
-
the interactions and effects of energy efficiency measures in combination with each other.
the workshops
The workshops are one-day-a-week over 9 weeks, between 10am and 5pm. The format consists of 4 interactive presentation-based workshops with alternate weeks being a group activity - a retrofit design project.
We will ask you to form groups of 3-4 people (ideally with a mix of different skills), then take an existing house that is in need of being retrofitted (it could be one of your own homes!) and by the end of the course, you will have produced a presentation consisting of three A1 sheets explaining (1) why, (2) what and (3) how you propose to undertake this (hypothetical) retrofit project.
On the final day you will complete your presentations (that will then be emailed for printing); you will sit the (required) 45-minute Level 3 NOCN CSkills test; and then after lunch we will have a recap and judge the presentations. Prizes will be awarded to the best design proposal.

eligibility
All learners must either live or be employed in Greater Manchester, be over 19 years old and employed or self-employed. If self-employed the workshops are fully funded. If employed there is an employer contribution of £250 for SMEs and £750 for large companies. The learner can not have taken part on a Bootcamp before.
